Is it really the most important meal of the day?

We’ve all heard it… “Don’t forget to eat your breakfast! It’s the most important meal of the day!”. And I get it. It’s the first thing that you are putting into your body after you have been, for a lack of a better word, fasting all night. But what are the benefits of eating a good, hearty breakfast, and I don’t mean a piece of toast and out the door. I’m talking about the idea of good balanced breakfast that has been literally and figuratively shoved down our throats as kids.

According to an article found on WebMD.com the benefits of eating breakfast sounds so simple. Eating a good breakfast = having good energy throughout the day. Your body is like a car and the food that you put in it is the fuel you need during your day. Once you wake up your body is usually on empty and putting good food into your body first thing in the morning is just the thing that you need to jump start you day. But don’t think that your favorite sugary cereal will do the job you need to make sure you are giving your body the right things it needs or you will just crash and burn.

Besides just giving your body fuel, breakfast also has many other great benefits. It can help you maintain a healthy weight, keep your blood sugar in control, its good for your heart, and it sets you up for success in whatever activities you have going on in your day. So I think we can all agree that when someone tells you to eat breakfast its a good idea to listen, for yum factors and health factors.
