The origin story of: Avocado Toast

Trendy foods… everyone LOVES trendy foods especially when you can put them on your Instagram feed and they are super aesthetically pleasing. I am guilty of this, sorry everyone you can eat yet because I need to take a picture of my food to post that probably no one will care about. But that is besides the point. This whole foodstagram action really started happening after the birth of the basic girls favorite breakfast, avocado toast.

Not to give you too much history on a piece of toast with avocado on it, but according to tastecooking.com, who also did not want to go into the rabbit hole of avocados and avocado toast history, we have learned that avocado toast was in fact born in Australia. “A recipe dating back to 1920 in San Gabriel’s Covina Argus, from Martin Fesler, who instructed readers to mash avocado with a fork and spread it on “a small square of hot toast.”.”

There is a lot more to it but basically avocado trees came to Australia in 1853 and didn’t come to America until 1856. So basically we can thank Australia and probably the rest of the world for avocado toast but us Americans can not take full credit for this master piece as much as we would like to.

If you ever want to flex on the Gram just smash some avocados on your toast and post it.
