Why I stopped eating animals for a month

During the month of February I made the decision to become a vegan. Not for any special reason I just wanted to try it to see if it was something I could attain for a whole month. Let me tell you that was one of the hardest, most self restricting months I have ever experienced when it came to my food diet.

First of all, I don’t think anyone really tells you how EXPENSIVE it is to be vegan. I was literally paying twice the price to eat some fake meat and cheese made out of tofu. I get it these foods have to be specially made and don’t come straight from a source, but my stomach is already struggling and now so are my pockets. During this entire month I just had to keep telling myself to think about the animals that I was at least not putting into my body.

One of the biggest benefits to this whole life style? I think anyone could say this about any “diet” but cutting out meats and cheeses (and other animal products) makes you feel so good! I really had so much more energy than I have ever had before. My skin cleared up, I slept better, water intake became even more important to me. It was really just a very positive experience overall.

Before going vegan I did not do a whole lot of research about what it really means to give up animal products and live strictly within a plant-based diet. However, I do have to say that being a vegan really helped me find new recipes and learn new ways to incorporate more veggies into my meals that I may not have previously thought of.
